Over the past few years, the cafe scene in Kuala Lumpur has grown exponentially — coffee joints have been sprouting like crazy. Spoilt for choice, we have narrowed it down these three best cafés in KL that you must at least go once in your life.

We picked these three based on overall ambience and speciality coffee beans.

X Coffee The Japan Store

The wooden elements is so aesthetically pleasing.

If you are looking for a minimalistic café, look no further than X Coffee The Japan Store. The multi-roaster coffee bar’s original outlet is in Q Sentral but has an outpost in Isetan The Japan Store. They specialises in beans from cult Japanese roasters — Maruyama, Fuglen and Nozy. Do expect prices to be a wee bit pricier because of that, but be rest assured that it is high quality brewed coffee.

The space itself is very well designed, it has mood lighting to accentuate the overall area and wooden seating pods to add some cosiness. As it is located right next to the bookstore, it has a very quiet and soothing ambiance. Coffee and books are always a good match.

Merchant’s Lane 美真林

The colourful and charming interior of Merchant Lane cafe.

Blending into its natural habitat, this café embraces its location very old school charm. It has textured walls, natural greenery, wooden traditional furnishings and a mash-up of colourful ornamentation. The building was a brothel once upon a time before it was abandoned, but look how good this place has cleaned up.

This hidden gem café is the perfect relaxation spot to be sipping on an iced latte on a balmy Sunday afternoon. Did we mentioned that the outdoor area with its beautiful natural lighting is purely Instagram-worthy?

PULP by Papa Palheta

From time to time, PULP by Papa Palheta has these coffee tastings that's why they are one of the best cafés in KL.

Have you been to this popular cafe located within a historic printing plant in Bangsar? If you haven’t, you are missing out! It is helmed by Singaporean coffee boutique Papa Palheta who also runs Chye Seng Huat Hardware and Loysel’s Toy cafés. Actually it is more of a coffee supplier and retailer than a café. However, they do have stellar coffee and desserts, which encourages people to linger.
